One of the famous traditional songs in Uganda is called ‘The Welcome Song’. Normally, school children would perpetually sing in classes back in Uganda. This song conjointly shows happiness and acts as a form of greeting to visitors who are coming by to visit their school. It is a symbol of hope and strength as this song is often being used to attract more children to frequently come to school. This is aligned to the 4th SDG, which is Quality Education, since this song directly helps Ugandan children to stay in school to get the education that they need.
Meanwhile, the Uganda’s traditional dance selected for this documentary is the Kiganda dance which is popularised by the Buganda people. This dance is performed as a symbol of support to Ugandan teenagers who often become victims to teen pregnancy issues. With more focus being given towards the dance it is hoped that more attention will be given to eradicate teen pregnancy amongst Ugandan girls. Hence, the 5th SDG – Gender Equality – is the main goal to achieve through exposure of Kiganda dance to the public.
